7DRL Day 1


Goal:

Station Salvage (Temporary? name) is a game about you, a mercenary for hire, infiltrating a derelict space station, to discover what happened and whether it's salvagable, on behalf of the Galactic Federation. The idea for this roguelike is inspired by Alien Swarm and Metroid, delving deeper into the station, while managing your resources... uncovering the mystery... and staying alive!

Day 1 was quick off the mark, then slow in the middle, and full of progress at the end. I started with my custom framework, but extending it to do some of the specific things needed for this game was tricky.

One of the major mechanics is that there isn't melee combat. You have an arm cannon, which needs to be charged before firing. You can hold the charge while moving, although this is costly. Getting that move-charge-fire-reload loop working was the first major chunk of work. And then the next bit was sorting out UI pieces, like event logging, as well as implementing a basic "hunger clock".

Your spacesuit only has so much power, so you need to spend it wisely, or your equipment will fail.
