Day 6: Breakdowns
Ouch.
Today was rough for me. I've been trying to do 7DRL while working my job in parallel, with some other things going on in the background, and it's been impacting my mental health more than expected. I slept poorly, woke up exhausted, booked the day off as "sick" and went back to bed for half the day.
What did I achieve?
I did a little bug-fixing, both to the DOME core, as well as an issue a tester spotted with the FoV system (thanks Jayrude!), and then called it quits til the evening.
During the evening, I managed to implement a couple of things:
- The drone now has a maximum functioning range. You can only control it, and see what it sees, when you are in range. There's a handy signal indicator in the top left now.
- You also have it in your inventory. You can deploy it, and pick it up.
- Rooms! - I managed to add two extra room types (lovingly referred to as "cargo" and "island") to the procedural map generator, so that the spaces are fairer to traverse. Ideally, I'd like to add one or two more, so I can remove "empty" as an option for generation.
- "cargo" represents a storage area, large boxes piled up high in a grid pattern.
- "island" adds some horizontal or vertical walls in the middle of the room, so that you have some cover.

Next steps
We are rolling into the final day now, and there's still plenty to be done. I'm not confident right now about how much I'll get done.
I think I want to focus on gameplay enhancements: enemy AI enhancement and tools to manipulate it, because this factors into the the core stealth experience.
If I can, squeezing a lock-key system in would be nice, but seems less likely now.
Ideally, I'll finish with some time to polish the existing game a bit, maybe add some visual flair and information to guide the player.
